If you have ever wanted to know more about the fine art of distillation you should make a visit to meet Jamie Baxter, Master Distiller of the new ‘City Of London Distillery’ (COLDistillery). This new venue is the first working distillery in London’s financial district, The City of London, for 200 years. It also has a bar laden with gins from around the world for your sampling pleasure.

Artisan distillation continues to enjoy a renaissance in the UK. The success of small distillers, especially those producing gin, brings welcome diversity for drinks connoisseurs. COLDistillery is one of a handful of artisan distillers based in London. It joins the likes of ‘Sipsmith’ in Hammersmith and ‘Sacred’ in Highgate, whose Master Distiller (and owner) literally distils from home!

Unlike the “Mother’s Ruin” era of the 1700’s gins, infamously portrayed by Hogarth, these ‘modern day’ artisan distillers produce high quality liquor, not dubious ‘bathtub’ concoctions to erode your sanity.

COLDistillery’s gin bar is already up and running with input from London Bar Consultants (Opening hours: 16h00 Mon-Fri). If this is your first foray into the world of gin look out for events, tutored tastings, and “flight tastings” for your drinking edification. For those of you without a home distillation kit (and appropriate licences) COLDistillery also welcome corporate clients. Packages include the option of creating your own bespoke gins with the Master Distiller!

If knowledge is power… and power an aphrodisiac then what could be more seductive than
knowing what you drink?
