We start a new series of monthly pieces on a round up of Men’s Style News, Views and our opinions on the world of Men’s Style across the globe.
Our favourite news item of the month of May was the study that psychologists at California State University, Northridge have proved that wearing a suit on a regular basis are more successful. We have been saying this since we first started with The Perfect Gentleman, well now we have the data to back it up!
The Kingsman movie has done so well that a sequel is already on the drawing board but jumping the gun Mr Porter has released it’s second set of clothes inspired by the movie. These are certainly budgeted more for the achieved Kingsman than the aspiring one but some nice pieces all the same, for more information saunter here
We love new companies in the Men’s Style global community and 3 Hong Kong menswear examples are highlighted here. They all seem to have European connections, with Milk Shirts run by a London College of Fashion graduate and James England founded by a British native and Iter Itineris launched by an Italian now living in Hong Kong. The world is truly full of global gentlemen & women of style.
Our good friend and dapper Gentleman about town, The Grey Fox, talks Summer Jackets this month and we highly recommend his guide it is smart and covers every level of budget and style. Do get jacketed here.
The dapper chaps at Monsieur London are stocking their most excellent Panama Hats ready for summer. The Panama hat is practical and stylish way to get you donning a hat. Great for holidays in sunny climes and the occasional heatwave in Northern Europe!
We met the charming brothers behind Beaumont & James, this month. There colourful yet classic takes on gentleman’s accessories certain made a glint appear in #1PG’s eye as he always like to co-ordinate his colours and now can do that with the shoelaces too! The two brothers, run the business whilst working and studying an entrepreneurial achievement indeed. Good Luck!
Best of Britannia launched its North show this May in Preston, in the north of England. The great team bring together the best of British brands across the spectrum from food to fashion and accessories to homeware. We didn’t make the North show but we will certainly be there when they return to London in June.
Industry News
The British Fashion Council and GQ Menswear Fund winner has been announced, going to the re-branded and Patrick Grant helmed, E Tautz. The fund is a £150,000 grant and year long mentoring programme to help take companies to the next level. Though we are a great fan of the established and successful Mr Grant and his stirling work in Men’s Style, we are a little perplexed that someone of his stature needs such a grant, but we hope it takes him to the next level.
High Street chain New Look has been purchased by the South African billionaire, Christian Wiese’s Brait. The have plans to develop their menswear offerings, which will be interesting to see which menswear path they take. We shall wait and see.
London Collections: Mens & Pitti Umo’s Summer shows are almost upon us this June. Though we are not going this year, we shall do some sneaky reporting from our friends on the ground and do a couple of wrap up articles as soon as they have finished. Maybe next year we will manage to get accredited and be able to report live!
Join us next month for more Men’s Style news, views and opinions and round ups from London Collections Mens & Pitti Umo.
